There are no Erasers
Heavy on my mind the last few days is regret. I’ve listened to several people say they wish the past had been different. Unfortunately, life doesn’t come with erasers. This is why I ask you if you’re ready to hold the pen.
People will often tell you to write your life in pencil, but that really makes no sense. I suppose if you’re actually writing life goals and plans leaving room to change them as you go is good. But when we’re being metaphoric a pencil doesn’t fit. What is done is done in life. You cannot undo it.
Life doesn’t come with erasers, no matter how pretty you try to make it sound. Pen is more permanent. Best you can do is scribble it out, but it’s still seen. It’s still a permanent mark on the book of your life.
When I speak to the relationship to self there is a process that you take to ensure that it is healthy. That process begins with self-tolerance. You have to tolerate yourself within states of regret and shame over the past. Learn to sit with it without reacting to it. Let yourself be uncomfortable.
Your inner child just wants to be heard. You’re the only one who can truly listen. Reassure them they are worthy and valued. That you don’t have to be ashamed of trying to protect yourself when no one had taught you how. That you don’t have to be angry over that anymore because you’re going to learn the proper ways…
