We hear people say all the time that their heart and mind are never on the same page, but they can be. Emotional intelligence is when you listen to your heart, but you bring your brain along. That way, if what your heart is saying is rooted in wounding and trauma, your brain can alert you.

Surrender this notion that your shadow must be overcome with tons of shadow work and intention. I know, I know, this is coming from me, the queen of doing intentional work. This does require intention and work, but perhaps in an easier and less harsh manner.

When you’re feeling anything shameful, imposter syndrome, anger, fear, whatever it is, I want you to recognize that is your heart screaming out in pain that you’ve never addressed. You need to bring your brain along and have a conversation with that pain; make it feel validated and accepted.

Tell that feeling it’s worthy and loved. That it belongs and this is a safe space to feel hard things. You remind yourself that how you feel is not always an accurate reflection of what is real. I don’t wake up everyday now and just never struggle with self-worth. I wake up less often like that.

But, rest assured some days I have to speak to what I feel, sit with it a while, and then allow my brain to make the decision that will bring my heart the most healing. And sometimes that…
